In the Indian city of Ambala Allround Vegetable Processing is building a 5800m2 factory to build machines for the potato and vegeable industry. "Last years we have pushed our boundaries".
Huib Smit started his company in the early 90's together with his brother Gerard. At that time they only made washing and grading machines for the flower bulb industry. "We constructed them cheaply in Poland at the time." Around Andijk there are many large plant breeding and seed technology companies. "This area in the provence of Noord-Holland is called Seed Valley. Almost 70% of all vegetables seeds in the world come from this area. Because of our contacts in this field we focussed more preparing potatoes and vegetables for the supermarkets.

Our machines wash or brush the product, after which the product is selected on quality and graded to size. After this the product is packed by machines." In 2007 the company of Mr. Smit were the first company in the industry to start a factory abroad. The choice was made to do this in India in a joint-venture with a local company. "The joint-venture has not worked out well for us. When doing business in India you have to take care you are not deceived. Our partner has stolen €100.000,- from us, so you will not hear any hallelujah stories from our side."

At this point the decision was made to start production in India by themselves. "In fact we have become our own copycats. In India we produce mainly for the Asian and South-American market. Except for vegetable machines we have shifted our focus to the potato processing industry. This is a much larger market. In February 2015 we are opening the new factory."
